Our privacy laws haven’t been updated in 40 years.
But more of our personal information is being captured than ever before.
Whether you are scrolling or shopping our data is being used in ways we never see.
We need privacy laws that:
Update the definition of personal information to include our movements and our search history
End tick-a-box consent – we shouldn’t have to agree to complex legal terms whenever we access a website
Allow us to take legal action when our privacy is breached - so the world’s biggest companies are made accountable
Lift exemptions that see 80 per cent of businesses free of their responsibilities to customers
Provide special protections from new technologies like Facial Recognition Technology
Privacy now!
Better for young people – so they’re not exploited for money or worse when they are learning or playing
Safer for women - better protections against stalkerware and limiting invasive data collection practices
Fairer for consumers – making it harder for companies to collect and trade in our data, protecting us from hacks and identity theft
Power for everyone – slowing the data arms race where our attention is so for sale makes for a healthier democracy
